The drive from Adelaide to Perth takes from 2 (for truck drivers) to 4 days (for us). The distance is like between Paris to Moscow so it's a very long drive. The road follows the Flindlers Range and then passes through a few towns such as Port Uagusta and deserts, including the Nullarbor or 'the Land Without trees'.
It has some very beautiful and interesting features along the way.
First, you will see some wildlife such as camels, or dromadaires.
If you like kangaroos, you will see a lot of them! We even saw an eagle trying to a lift a dead kangaroo and whales at Bich Point.
There are some caves with very large underground lakes next to the Nullarabor road. However, you will need a 4wd vehicule and your own caving equipement to visit them.
The dunes of the Old Telegraph Station are amazing. It's possible to walk on them and have fun as much as you wish. This is the pure wilderness. (A geological map of the Nullarbor on the right).
Take a look a those small sand architectures: before and after.
What about this sand worm shell?
Plants grows up near these sand dunes.
What is this animal?
I dipped my toes in the Antartic Sea and it was great!
Many Eucalyptus trees grow up before and after the Nullarbor:
While the time is changing a few times for 30 or 45 minutes backward.
On the contrary, the unleaded petrol prices went up from 1$ in Adelaide to a record of 1.40/1.47$ in the middle of the Nullarbor! Some people like prefer to save hundreds on the petrol by biking the Nullarbor for thousands of kilometres!
Don't miss the beautiful coastal scenary just after the Nullarbor National Park!
After crossing the border from South Australia to Western Australia and dropping our fruits and veggies, we started the longuest straight road in Australia.
What about these ants nest holes?
After 4 days drive we finaly arrived in Northman.
Yoopi! We crossed the Nullarbor!
