Port Headland was our first town after the Karijini National Park. It's an industrial town and port. The iron mines around Karijini have there own railway directly connected to Port Headland. The iron is processed and shipped to iron hungry countries such as Japan or China. This is a huge industry worth billons of dollars.
Just before Port Headland, there is also a beautiful salt mine:
We then stopped and camped at 80 miles beach, midway between Port Headland and Broome. The tide of the Indian Ocean is starting to be strong here. Wild cows and bulls are everywhere: take great care when driving!
On the way to Broome, we stopped at the Ashburton River bridge and roadhouse.
Check those peacocks on the road house!
The price of unleaded petrol was 1.55AU$, 20 cents more than usual so we didn't filled up the tank. That was not a bad idea after all :-)
So I drove the next 100 km and realized that the petrol level started to get low. oh oh oh. And we are hundred of km from civilisation, in the middle of the bush.
I then drove behind a van at 80km/h for the next 150km. Then the car started to bump so I slowed down, using the last drops in the most efficient way.
Hopefuly our Volvo 240GL car take us 5kmmore to the next roadhouse:)))) Lucky us: we had to push the car for only 100 meters! That was fun!
Finally we arrived in Broome and pitched our tent near Cable Beach.
Cable Beach is very nice with a beautiful sandy white beach, shells, amazing sunset and moon rise, surfing waves.
